Volcano Roll at Bonsai Sushi

Which sushi rolls can you get in Wesley Chapel?

Seventy-six of them, at Bonsai Sushi in The Shoppes at New Tampa on Bruce B Downs Boulevard: hand rolls, veggie rolls, cooked rolls and raw rolls, plus two special lists where the Doctor Roll and the Volcano Roll live. Order any of them for pickup or delivery, or take a table and work down the list.

Which sushi rolls do people come back for?

The rolls people ask for by name are the Sexy Man Roll, the Doctor Roll and the Volcano Roll, then Matt’s Roll and the Mexican Roll. More than a third of the people who order rolls here call them the best or a must-try, and many say they came out fresh and thank the staff by name. One of them said it simply: ‘I love their volcano roll, they make it the way is supposed to be.’ All five are on the menu:

  • Volcano Roll: krab stick, cucumber, avocado and cream cheese inside, krab delight, eel sauce and spicy mayo on top.

  • Doctor Roll: shrimp tempura, cream cheese, smoked salmon and asparagus inside, eel and avocado on top, finished with masago, eel sauce, spicy sauce and scallions.

  • Sexy Man Roll: tuna, eel, avocado, tempura crumbs and masago, topped with scallion, eel sauce and spicy sauce, then tempura fried.

  • Matt’s Roll: tuna and shrimp tempura with cream cheese and tempura crumbs, avocado and spicy sauce on top.

  • Mexican Roll: shrimp tempura, avocado, mayo and masago.

What is on the roll list?

The list you order from has six sections. Hand Rolls are cones of seaweed around tuna, salmon, hamachi, eel or krab. Veggie Rolls are seven rolls built on vegetables. Cooked Rolls run from the California Roll to the Tampa Roll, white fish tempura with cucumber and mayo, and Raw Rolls are the tuna, salmon and yellowtail rolls. Then come the two special lists: Cooked Specials Rolls, where the Doctor Roll and the Crispy Roll sit, and Raw Special Rolls, home of Matt’s Roll and the Pikachu Roll, the newest roll on the menu. Not everything is wrapped in seaweed: the Pink Lady Roll comes in soy paper and the Rising Sun Roll in rice paper.
